How can I take recordings off my DVR and upload them to my PC?

Anibal Katayama: It is cable, provided by a company called Cable One. Here is a page that shows you my DVRhttp://broadband.motorola.com/dvr/dct6412.asp

Berry Gilmore: DV Archive works on my ReplayTV

Rebbecca Sorkin: The ONLY DVRs that can be networked are Tivo standalone units at this time. DirecTV Tivo's can have the software modified to enable the USB ports so it can be networked. Some Comcast DVRs made by motorola can be connected to a PC after some modification. Now since you did not mention which DVR you have or which satellite provider I will let you know that BOTH Dish and DirecTV will NOT enable the USB ports on their units, this is for what they say is "Future Use".There are two ways you can transfer your shows/movies though. Either you need a TV Tuner Capture Card for your PC or a DVD Recorder to connect to the output of the DVR. Both of these will only allow you to transfer the shows at real time, meaning that a 2 hour show will take 2 hours to tran! sfer and record. I have used a PCMCIA TV Tuner Capture card for my laptop and a PCI TV Tuner Capture Card for my Desktop PC, this is a pretty good method, it allowed me to edit and then burn the shows/movies to DVD pretty easily. I found my PCI and PCMCIA TV Tuner Capture Card from Ebay for about $25. If you do a search on ebay just as I listed it will pop up with quite a few.If by chance you DO have a DirecTV Tivo DVR (NOT a DirecTV DVR+) then send me an email and I can give you some links to find the necessary software and links for the HOW TO's to get it done.I hope this helps you out, please feel free to send me an email if you have any further questions...Show more

Vernita Robberson: Hi m1rock,You can do it with DVD Xpress. With DVD Xpress you can transfer your video to your hard drive and then edit it if you desire. DVD Xpress comes with basic video editing software. I got mine at Sam's for $59.95. They are cheaper now. You can look at one & read about it here - ! http://www.usb-ware.com/ads-dvd-xpress.htmI saw a newer model ! at WalMart last week. It was the DVD Xpress2. I can’t remember what it cost. You connect the composite output of your DVR into the DVD Xpress and connect the DVD Xpress to your computer via a USB cable.Norm...Show more

Justin Casten: I was wondering if anyone knew of a step by step process in which I can possibly connect my DVR to my PC, upload some of my recordings and then change them into a AVI format or some other format for later burning to DVD and viewing on my PC. I have a Motorola DCT6412 III DVR
