Opinions of Higher Education in Uruguay?

Patricia Bolduc: Uruguay is no utopia, even if it is a good country in many respects. Having only been there as a tourist a few times, I thought I would comment. On education, the five recognized Uruguayan universities rate in the bottom of the top 500 in the world. That probably means that you will find it difficult to get your degree recognized in many places, outside of Uruguay. It is a poor country, by western standards and education is NOT FREE for persons from outside. You need to be a citizen of the country to get almost free education.Uruguay is also a highly bureaucratic country where the simplest interaction with "the authorities" can take days, most of that time spent in various line-up and providing more and more documentation. For some rather scathing comments, read this blog, one of many:http://www.from-uruguay.com/2007/05/ten-things-i-h...Now, if you are good, you could apply to study in Sweden, your education from there is recognized around the world and al! so extremely inexpensive by international standards.http://www.studyinsweden.se/...Show more
