Whether it is a large or small network, there are basic components needed to design and create a good network structure. Router1. The router is the hardware component that connects the computers together. The router allows the machines to communicate. Home routers can also come with wireless capabilities, allowing laptop computers to also connect and communicate with other servers and client machines on the network. A router at large companies allows multiple subnets to communicate and reduces the amount of traffic on each part of the network. Cables2. Cables are required for machines that are hard wired like desktops. Wires are connected to the computer's network card and connected to a data jack or directly to the router. For most home networks, the cables are connected to the router. For large companies, cables are usually installed ! in the wall where the other end is connected to a data center. Network ! Cards3. Network interface cards (NICs) are required for networks. These hardware parts are installed in the client computers and the servers.
