Idell Dufort: Your very FIRST thing on your "to do" list should be INSURANCE !!If someone`s Little Miss Precious stubs her toe and gets a boo-boo while on your property , you`ll be sued for more than the national debt ................ believe it !!
Joel Feagler: Keep one thing in mind:You need to have 10X more insurance than you think you will need... ESPECIALLY in low income areas. The liability factors for having anything to do with children are INSANE because if little Shaniqua or Tyrone falls and scrapes a knee, there is a HIGH LIKELIHOOD that mamma or grandmama will sue you in to the ground.ROFLMAO! I had this window open for a while before answering and didn't see the post above me until after I made mine... We both go on about insurance! If that doesn't convince you, I don't know what will. You need special licensing by the state for Child Care... You need to have the place inspected and 10X more "Child Proofed" than you think you will...In low income areas, if ! the parents are strung out, the kids will be lacking in nutrition, medical care, education, and even the ability to calmly associate with peers due to the poor examples set by the parent(s). Call me racist for pointing out reality but it doesn't matter if it is white-trash, black-trash, latino-trash, etc. etc. etc. if they smell a dollar, they will go at it like rabid dogs on a kitten. Fights are common and it will be YOU that is liable should Mary-Lou kick the crap out of Betty-Joe... It doesn't matter that you had nothing to do with it, you are in charge and will therefore be liable. You can get all kinds of books, toys, etc. etc. from local charities or thrift stores... You might be able to get local organizations to come in and offer free medical care... If you get the media involved you might be able to get local companies to come in and help build the playground... But if you plan to do this as an Individual, you are stuck with the liability. If you REALLY want to do th! is knowing the risks, become a Not-For-Profit Organization. Ge! t everyone in your community together and incorporate so that should you be sued, they will take the CORPORATION to court and not YOU.As a NFP Organization, you can get more chartable donations because you have PAPERWORK to show that you are not just taking the cash... You have a paper trail... A lot of other organizations and companies won't drop a dime to a cause until they can prove it is legit. There are SO MANY local resources for small businesses but they can be hard to find.Start off at http://www.sba.gov/The SBA website is hard to navigate and very poorly designed but they can point you to local resources and actual people that will help you though the details.FREE legal advice...FREE Courses...FREE meetings with local SBOwners...And as a woman, you can become certified as a Woman Owned Small Business Enterprise which opens up thousands of doors that would otherwise be closed to you. (Including grants and funding options.)...Show more
Donald Caravalho: You need! to have a daycare license, also enough SPACE wherever it is that you want to open this place. because an inspector may come to see that it is a safe and roomy place for kids to be. That means spacious play area and napping area. Every state is different but depending on the ammount of kids you plan on watching will depend on if you beed a staff or not. I know some places its 3 or 4 children to every one adult. That is the legal stuff. After that you need lots of fun things IN BULK to keep the kids not just occupied but educated as well. I wish you all the luck in the world on this endeavor!...Show more
